2020-2021 Open Board Positions

The USSAAC Nominations Committee announces USSAAC’s Call for Nominations for open positions on the USSAAC Board of Directors.

Participation on the USSAAC Board is an opportunity to contribute actively to the only organization in the United States that represents ALL stakeholder groups who support people with complex communication needs. A strong USSAAC is needed to increase the volume of voices too often unheard AND/OR unheeded. Please consider taking a more active, leadership role in your organization.

Important Dates

  • Nominations Open – September 15, 2019
  • Nominations Close – October 15, 2019
  • Election begins – November 1, 2019
  • Election ends – December 1, 2019
  • 2020-2021 Board of Directors announced – December 6, 2019
  • Term begins January 1, 2020.


Note: All Board of Directors Officers and Directors are eligible to hold a specific position for two terms (each term is two years). 

President Elect

  1. Performs such general or specific tasks as the Board shall designate. 
  2. Assists the President in carrying out the day-to-day responsibilities and activities of USSAAC. 
  3. Serves as an ex-officio member on designated standing and ad hoc committees formed by the Board of Directors. 
  4. Becomes USSAAC President upon the end of the President’s term or if the USSAAC President is unable to complete his/her term for any reason.

Vice President, Finance

  1. Performs such general or specific tasks as the Board shall designate. 
  2. Responsible for the fiscal aspects of USSAAC, including preparing an annual budget for Board approval, executing the approved budget and monitoring the financial condition of the organization throughout the year.
  3. Has final authority for USSAAC expenditures in accordance with the budget. 
  4. Maintains the financial records of USSAAC. 
  5. Prepares a financial status report in advance of all USSAAC board meetings. 
  6. Coordinates membership data and collection/distribution of monies with ISAAC Secretariat. 
  7. Seeks sources of funds to supplement dues. 
  8. Reports financial status annually to the membership in writing.
  9. Coordinates activities with other officers.
  10. Submits required federal and state tax reports.
  11. Oversees accounting and auditing activities undertaken as necessary

Vice President, People who use AAC and their Families 

  1. Performs such general or specific tasks as the Board shall designate.
  2. Ensures that concerns and interests of people who use AAC and their families are represented in the ongoing planning and activities of the organization.
  3. Compiles public awareness information for dissemination. 
  4. Develops and implements an annual operational plan and reports annually on progress to the membership in writing.
  5. Monitors issues at the national level that relate to people who use AAC. 
  6. Coordinates activities with other officers and committees. 
  7. Maintains a bi-directional exchange with persons responsible for ISAAC’s committee and actions for people who use AAC. 
  8. Organizes and implements activities undertaken during AAC Awareness Month.

Director, Professional Affairs 

  1. Performs such general or specific tasks as the Board shall designate.
  2. Facilitates the development, expansion and refinement of inter-professional, pre-service, and continuing education through webinars, conferences, and other media and venues. 
  3. Chairs USSAAC’s Education and Ethics Committee. 
  4. Develops and implements an annual operational plan and reports annually on progress to the membership in writing.
  5. Monitors research, public policy and legislative issues at the national level as they relate to education, research, and quality service delivery. 
  6. Proposes activities and monitors professional related activities approved in USSAAC’s yearly Operational Plan. 
  7. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with ISAAC and other professional and consumer organizations to address key issues affecting USSAAC stakeholders. 
  8. Manages CEU opportunities for USSAAC members.

Director, Public Information 

  1. Performs such general or specific tasks as the Board shall designate. 
  2. Establishes and maintain policies and procedures related to all USSAAC publications and media activities. 
  3. Recommends personnel/contractors and monitors the performance of said entities regarding the upkeep of the USSAAC website, social media, publications and other information sharing efforts. 
  4. Develops and implements an annual operational plan and reports annually on progress to the membership in writing.
  5. Chairs USSAAC’s Publications and Information Committee. 
  6. Maintains communication with ISAAC and other stakeholder organizations responsible for public policy and advocacy affecting individuals who use AAC.
