The United States Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (USSAAC) is the US chapter of the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC), which advocates for people who have difficulty using or being understood when communicating with their natural speech. On September 8, 2021, we launched Amplifying AAC Voices, a three-year campaign designed to increase the voices of people who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and provide a way for them to share their hopes, dreams, needs, interests, expertise, knowledge, and successes. It is a critical and long-overdue initiative.
USSAAC’s Amplifying AAC Voices campaign will
- promote the skills and talents of these unique individuals;
- highlight these voices in messages which the general public can better access, learn from, and embrace,
- provide a means through which a person who uses AAC may be identified and hired for speaking engagements, guest lectures or teaching, workshops, and presentations;
- provide the opportunity for people learning to use AAC to hear from their peers.
The Amplifying AAC Voices Campaign is a three-year-long, multipronged series of initiatives focused on heightening awareness, knowledge, participation, inclusion, diversity, and opportunity for people who use AAC in the United States, beginning with the AAC Speaker Connection.
