USSAAC is the United States Chapter of the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC) and the ONLY organization in the United States that serves the needs and advocates for adults and children who rely on AAC methods and technologies, their family members, professionals, educators, advocates, and manufacturers. Our mission is to enhance the lives of people with complex communication disabilities. We invite you to join USSAAC and help us achieve our mission.

Join USSAAC

USSAAC membership is managed through ISAAC. The ISAAC US Chapter membership page is where you can find instructions on using the ISAAC Member’s only portal to create or renew a membership to USSAAC. You can also complete the membership PDF form to join.

ISAAC Members Only 

When you join USSAAC, your membership includes membership to ISAAC and access to the  Members Only section of the ISSAC website. The section is reserved exclusively for ISAAC members and requires your member ID number and a password to enter. The following list contains just some of the information you will be able to access upon entering the members only section:

  • Conference Registration Discount Code to receive a reduced price for attending ISAAC Conferences as a member.
  • ISAAC Membership Directory
  • Organization Documents such as meeting minutes, current ISAAC bylaws, audited financial statements, and more.
  • Archives of past ISAAC Conferences

Membership Length

USSAAC membership runs per calendar year, from January 1 to December 31. You may join at any time during the year; however, there are no pro-rated rates. Membership rates remain the same, regardless of when you join USSAAC.

USSAAC has announced early bird registration for the upcoming year starting November 1 and ending December 31.

Exchange Rates

USSAAC’s membership fees are processed through ISAAC. The prices listed on this page and on the ISAAC website are in Canadian Dollars.  The exchange between Canadian Dollars (CAD) and United States Dollars (USD) fluctuates at an irregular rate. Use a conversion calculator for the most updated information on the price you are about to pay.

Discounts and Upgrades

USSAAC  offers discounts and upgrades to membership to accommodate a variety of people to participate in our community.

The discounts on individual memberships are for potential members of the following:

  • People who use AAC and their families, price: $40 CAD
  • Full-time Student/Retired Professional, price: $52 CAD

There are optional upgrades to an individual membership:

  • 1 year membership with 1 year subscription to AAC Journal price: $205 CAD ($13 savings)
  • 2 year membership price: $240 CAD

Individual Membership

Every member of USSAAC will receive these benefits:

  • Full membership in ISAAC, which includes reduced fees for conferences and publications.
  • Significant reduction in conference fees for USSAAC members at the ISAAC 2020 Biennial Conference on the Riviera Maya, Mexico, August 3-6, 2020 (must be a member during 2020).
  • Access to USSAAC’s FREE (to members) Webinar Series. In 2020, we will offer 4-6 topical presentations. Accessible webinars are archived at www.isaac-online.org. Members get priority when registering for webinars as they are often quickly fully booked. ASHA CEUs are a member benefit at no extra charge; non-members are charged $25 per webinar for CEUs.
  • SPEAK UP! USSAAC’s blog. USSAAC members get priority consideration as guest authors. Our blog features articles by people who use AAC, family members, inter-professional practitioners, researchers, educators, and other stakeholders and allies. Topics include up-to-date information about relevant policies (including funding) and practices that impact USSAAC members. Go to SpeakUP blog.
  • Reduced registration to the Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA) annual conference in Orlando.
  • Significant reduction in subscription rate ISAAC’s peer-reviewed, scientific journal AAC, the Journal of Augmentative and Alternative Communication. A “must have” and major source of research information in our field. Go to www.isaac-online.org/english/publications/; Access to free downloads from ISAAC and USSAAC websites.   • ASHA CEUs. Ability to earn CEUs for a nominal fee or at no charge. Now available for USSAAC’s webinar series and at some conferences (e.g., at ATIA, ISAAC Biennial Conference, etc.).
  • Participation in USSAAC Committees (e.g., Education, Disaster Relief, Advocacy, Membership, Public Information, Finance). USSAAC volunteers work together to make a difference. Join, have fun, meet new people and develop your leadership skills.
  • Ongoing communication exchange with others in the AAC community, both local, national and international. USSAAC keeps in touch with its members through Facebook, Twitter, USSAAC’s website and periodic emails.
  • In-person networking opportunities and at least one face-to-face meeting at key US conferences, where USSAAC members can be identified by their badge ribbons!

Institutional Membership

USSAAC’s Institutional members will receive all the individual membership benefits as well as the following:

  • One free subscription to Augmentative and Alternative Communication, the Journal of the International Society for AAC (ISAAC), with access for up to three staff
    • Listed as institutional member on the home page during the membership year
    • Promotion of member-sponsored educational events on USSAAC’s social media (up to 2 posts/tweets per event)
    • ASHA CEU’s at member rate for up to three staff.
    • If negotiated, reduced conference registration to non-USSAAC conferences (e.g., ATIA main and pre-conference) for up to three staff
