Statement about Anti-Racism and Discrimination

Dear USSAAC Members:

The United States Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (USSAAC) affirms Black Lives Matter.  The recent killings of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd, among others before and since, are examples of the prevalence of explicit and implicit anti-Black racism in our country. We recognize that black and brown people who use AAC are also marginalized by institutional forces.

We support people who use AAC, their families, professionals, and students, and condemn all forms of violence against them. As the national representative organization advocating for the rights of all individuals with complex communication needs, we recognize the intersectionality of our mission and commit to working towards actions of solidarity with all those impacted by injustice with regard to racism and discrimination.

President, USSAAC
